For some, it is quiet, and for others it is like standing under bells.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>New research shows that tinnitus may be worse for people who also have hearing loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">About the Study<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-image\"><figure class=\"alignright size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/massachusettshearinggroup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/hearing-test-man-hearing-loss-1280x853.jpg\" alt=\"Man gets a hearing test.\" class=\"wp-image-1815\" width=\"296\" height=\"197\" srcset=\"https:\/\/massachusettshearinggroup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/hearing-test-man-hearing-loss-1280x853.jpg 1280w, https:\/\/massachusettshearinggroup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/hearing-test-man-hearing-loss-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/massachusettshearinggroup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/hearing-test-man-hearing-loss-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/massachusettshearinggroup.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/06\/hearing-test-man-hearing-loss-scaled.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 296px) 100vw, 296px\" \/><\/figure><\/div>\n\n\n\n<p>A 2020 study, entitled \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/32787604\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">A comparison of the severity of tinnitus in patients with and without hearing loss using the tinnitus functional index (TFI)<\/a>,\u201d sought to compare the severity of tinnitus in patients with hearing loss to those without.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Seventy-three patients who had visited an audiology clinic in Amman, Jordan were enrolled.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Researchers evaluated the severity of the patients\u2019 tinnitus using the Tinnitus Functional Index (TFI) questionnaire. Next, participants were interviewed and tested with an otoscope examination, pure tone audiometry, and admittance and tinnitus matching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Patients were then divided into two study groups based on their hearing ability.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Study Results<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Researchers uncovered a statistically significant association between <a href=\"https:\/\/massachusettshearinggroup.com\/hearing-loss\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">hearing status<\/a> and tinnitus severity. There was no association between the severity of tinnitus and the age or gender of participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The tinnitus ratings for those with normal hearing were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Mild annoyance: 50%<\/li><li>Significant annoyance: 41%<\/li><li>Severe annoyance: 9%<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The tinnitus ratings for those with hearing loss were:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul><li>Mild annoyance: 28%<\/li><li>Significant annoyance: 31%<\/li><li>Severe annoyance: 41%<\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>Though the study was small, it does demonstrate a link between tinnitus severity and hearing loss.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Why Is There a Link Between Tinnitus &amp; Hearing Loss?<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>When you are exposed to extremely loud sounds, it can damage the delicate cells within the inner ear. These cells are responsible for translating sound vibrations into electrical impulses that the brain interprets as sound.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>When the cells are damaged, it can cause them to misfire, causing tinnitus. If they are destroyed, it can cause hearing loss, which means missing out on more conversations at <a href=\"https:\/\/moonstones110.com\/\">Moo<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/moonstones110.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">n<\/a><a href=\"https:\/\/moonstones110.com\/\">stones<\/a>.
